I Get Around

After visiting Arlington Cemetery last week I embarked on a forty year walk. Yes, I am now sixty-one, happy birthday to me. For some reason the Lincoln Memorial looked a lot closer in my head than it was in reality. I blame my horrible sense of direction and depth for this miscalculation (this is the same reason I am a horrible driver. Seriously, I am glad to have a New Jersey license plate, people set the expectations low this way).

I crossed a bridge and river ohhh pretty. This may or may not be me crossing into DC from Virginia. I am not Sacajawea I do not know if this is true, but, my blog, my rules....this is now a state boundary.
Okay, so they monument looks EVEN further now. What am I doing? Reality starts to set in at this point.

I spent a lot of time behind this couple on the bridge, we've seen some crazy things together. We bonded. But also, not sure if they knew I was there. Anyway, random couple, thanks for the memories.

I'm telling you....this bridge was long...I was stuck here for a while...pictures were taken to past the time.
 GREAT SUCCESS! I'm almost there.
Just kidding I zoomed in to make myself feel a little better. Did I mention I actually passed a metro stop at the beginning of this trail of tears. What was I thinking?

I should have thrown an elbow at this girl and stolen her bike- I'm pretty sure I could have taken her on.

 Epic statue.
SWEET POTATO I MADE IT. Victory is mine.

I see you there memorial, no hiding from me.

Great spot to just hang out, meet you there in five?

Decided I might as well walk five million miles this day and take it all in so I booked it over to the Korean War Memorial.

Memorial of the story? Being a tourist is hard and exhausting. Pheww, I'm still feeling the burn.

And here is what I'm working today

  5. The black n white photo of the couple is excellent + and even though I was born and raised in DC I haven't done anything touristy in years + I usually like going during off-times when I can actually look without being rushed + good times.

The soldiers are also cool + although statues kinda scare me + the exhibit is great.

  15. Hahaha so true about the Jersey plates. Even though I'm from here, I drove the Boy's car (which has NJ plates) for a few months around here and used it as an excuse to cut into turn lanes (even though I knew they were turn only) at the last minute to avoid lines.... bad Julie, I know.

  69. I've been to DC but never walked around... but I know exactly how you feel because I was in NYC this weekend and I thought getting through Central Park would be a hop skip and a jump and it took about an HOUR and there were big HILLS!! I also suffer horrible senses of distance and depth. At least you (and I) got to take some cool pics along the way. i love the outfit you are wearing, looks so light and summery. warm wishes to your feet <3shelby
