World Meet Alberico Fettucini

Ah Petco, not only is it where the pets go, but it's also the birthplace of dreams. Behold, my local Petco, foster parent to my newest adopted son.

Wall o' fish. Okay confessional time, everyone gather close, I want to whisper to Alberico doesn't overhear: I wanted a goldfish. There it is, the big nasty truth lying out there for everyone to know. Phew I'm feeling better. I had visions of a bubble-eyed goldfish and I creating beautiful memories together until the Petco fish attendant educated me on the cold hard truths of the world.

Turns out goldfish are hard to keep alive. Who knew? I mean they give them out at fairs, what could be so difficult about that?! Nope, they need tanks to filter water for days before their arrival, I obviously did not plan for this, as obvious by the huge tank I was lugging around the store. Betta fish it is then!
I appreciate the 30-day guarantee that if you kill your fish you are entitled to look-a-like. I would like to point out Alberico is a rare breed who does not fall under this 30 day clause. The pressure is on.
Our first family portrait: Alberico and I waiting for the metro. There were signs EVERYWHERE saying barring animals from the metro, and I wasn't quite sure where Alberto fell under this umbrella term 'Animal', so I tried to play it real cool and low key. What fish? I don't see any fish. Nothing to see here....except all the little kids waiting to take the metro did not get with the program and did not care if I had to walk home. "FISH!!" They yelled, "MOM LOOK AT THE GIRL WITH THE LIVING, BREATHING, NON-SEEING-EYE DOG ANIMAL."

Finally! The man of the hour!! Internet may I introduce you to Alberico Fettucini?

I know, the resemblance between us is uncanny.

Fish require a lot of accessories and assembly was required. They left that part out on Teen Mom, I was unprepared for this step mentally and physically.
That plant is so realistic Alberico will think he is in the middle of Central Park.
Not going to lie, I did not read these instructions. That would explain why I have an extra plastic piece left over whose purpose is an absolute mystery to me. It would also explain why I put the rocks in before the bottom piece. Or why I struggled with the air tube.

Moral of the story: Have more patience than I do, read the manual. This taught me a precious lesson, when it is time to share my genes with the world an engage in procreation I will be more prepared. I will totally read What to Expect When You're Expecting so I don't mess that one up. Alberico is my practice child.
I think the metro was terrifying for him as evident by the floating poops. I hope he doesn't hold this picture against me one day when is older.

He also takes after his mother in that he is not a light traveler. Check out the luggage this guy comes with. Sheesh.
Living the life. King of his domain!  Just so y'all know Alberico means King of the Elves, that's my boy.

In other news I made cookies. You may notice some of them have a bite or two missing, I'm blaming this one on Charles Darwin and not at all on my love of cookie dough. Only the strong survive.

  23. My husband bought our daughter a goldfish for her third birthday. Mr. Fishy (we've got mad fish naming skillz) sadly passed away 2 weeks later. Instead of explaining the circle of life to her we just told her that Mr. Fishy went back to hang out with his friends at the pet store. :)

  25. Beware Petco: Make sure they actually know what fish they are selling you. Once we bought a "miniature blue shrimp", it turned out that it was some kind of lobster and ate all of my pretty angelfish! Kinda funny in retrospect tho.

    Happy fish owning!
